Oct. 30--OAKLAND -- A man killed Saturday night when he was thrown off his motorcycle into a tree in the Oakland hills was identified Monday as Shane G. Corley, 31.

Authorities said Corley had an Oakland address and one in Santa Clara.

A pistol police believe belonged to Corley was found near the wrecked motorcycle and investigators are trying to determine why he had it with him.

Police said Corley was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson southbound on Keller Avenue about 10:10 p.m. Based on physical evidence at the scene, police said Corley was speeding.

As he rode on the 4200 block of Keller near Siena Drive he apparently lost control of the motorcycle when he struck a raised curb, police said. Corley was thrown from the motorcycle and hit a Redwood tree in the center median, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call investigators at 777-8658.
